How it Started

When my boys were young, I learned about an opportunity to serve inside their school. A group of moms had created a small resource closet called the Pirate Pantry. What began as weekend food bags had grown into a daily offering of basic school supplies, snacks, clothing, and hygiene items for students in need.

I was sitting in a PTO meeting when I heard they were looking for someone to coordinate the effort on the rapidly growing Laura Bush Middle School campus.

“Put me down for the next seven years.”

It’s been ten years now.

What started as a simple, compassion-fueled effort tucked into the back of one middle school has grown to impact more than 100 schools in our community and beyond.

With efficiency and sustainability in mind, I developed a comprehensive approach to connecting student needs with community support—including neighbors, student organizations, and local businesses. This model eases the burden on teachers, counselors, and administrators who are already stretched thin.

Instead of scrambling to meet basic needs, they can focus on what they do best: teaching and preparing students for the future.

We provide the fuel.
