We Have An Overwhelming Need

We have an overwhelming need for hoodies, sweatshirts without hoods, and jackets. Especially for kids.

Yesterday as I was pulling a rack from the front warehouse to the back warehouse, it blew over. Dozens of your jackets & hoodies fell to the ground thanks to the Lubbock wind. The cart is one of the sturdiest ones we have - but west Texas wind is strong. As I was griping and trying to salvage them all before they got dirty or blew away, the reality of the scale of our operation hit me. We have outgrown every space we’ve been given. This is a good problem to have. It’s also a logistical nightmare some days.

One of our volunteers walked over to help me once she realized what had happened. In her most encouraging tone, she said “think of all the sweet kids who are going to be wearing these donations soon … who won’t be cold because of this..”

It was a perfectly timed word.

We have 31 schools that have sent us their requests for hoodies and jackets and crewneck sweatshirts. We wanted to get them set up with what they need before the first real cold front.

Despite saving all the donations specifically for this effort over the last few months, and thinking we had more than enough, we ran out after filling the requests for the first ten schools.

So we have 21 more campuses to help.

We can’t do it without you.

Will you take some time to clean out your coat closet?

Specifically, we need coats, hoodies, and sweatshirts without hoods. The most overwhelming need is for kids sizes XS to XL. We have more adult sizes on hand but still need those too. We are completely out of these items for kids. (I wish I’d taken a picture of all that we had before - but you can see them bagged up in these pics and ready to go out this week)

Here’s what we need from the community:

Bag up your clean hoodies, jackets & crewneck sweatshirts.

Label them (((helps us so much)))

Drop off in one of our donation bins.

Text us when you do.

We’ll be picking up often this week.

Our number is - 877-959-5011

Thank you for helping us bring warmth to west Texas students.
